  3. Remembrance Centre set to open Friday

    The centre officially opens to the public on Friday and those behind it say it'll let people explore "how the practice of remembrance has evolved over time".

    It also hosts films, exhibitions and learning facilities and has been paid for through money from donors, individuals, and groups. 

    The 150-acre (61-hectare) site in Alrewas contains more than 300 memorials dedicated to all the armed forces, emergency services and civilians.

  5. Man charged with city centre rape

    A man has been charged with rape after a woman was allegedly targeted while walking home from a night out.

    The 30-year-old was charged with rape and one count of burglary at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court earlier today.

    The charges relate to an incident in Harriet Street Normanton, at about 23.30 on Saturday.

    He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody, to appear at Derby Crown Court on 16 November.

  6. New outdoor market for Buxton

    A new weekly outdoor market is breathing life back into Buxton’s Market Place, according to Derbyshire County Council.

    The county council gave £11,000 towards the start-up and maintenance of the market which launched in May this year.

  7. Remembrance Centre at the National Memorial Arboretum opens Friday

    A new remembrance centre at the National Arboretum in Alrewas will be opening its doors to the public on Friday.

    It is hoped that the centre will attract around half a million visitors each year.

    A man who had gone missing from Calow has been found.

  9. More people jobless in East Midlands

    There's been a small rise in the number of unemployed people in the East Midlands. 

    In August there were 109,000 people out of work in our region - that's 2,000 more than in the previous quarter.

    Nationally the number rose by 10,000 in the three months to August.

    Police are appealing for information after graffiti was left on a newly-opened skate park in Pilsley.

    Since it was officially opened on 7 October, graffiti and tags have appeared at Pilsley Miners Welfare Sports Ground, on Rupert Street.

  15. Council say Cattle Market 'is not financially viable'

    We've heard from campaigners trying to stop Derby's Cattle Market from being demolished but the council says it is costing too much.

    A Derby City Council spokesperson said: "Extensive evaluation has found the site is not financially viable; with considerable additional costs due to bio security legislation and onsite security, alongside a decline in the number of farmers attending the market over recent years."

    However, they have promised to continue to work with the remaining tenants to find suitable alternative locations.  

  16. Police concerned for missing man

    Police are concerned for the safety of a man who has not been seen for two days.  

    David McNeil was last seen in Calow at around noon on Monday.

    Mr McNeil is 52, white and about 5ft 9ins tall. He is stocky and has greying hair. He was last seen wearing a blue hooded top and blue jeans.

  18. Wet wipes causing blockages in our sewers

    Severn Trent is getting tough on wet wipes which it says is causing huge problems for the sewage network in the East Midlands.

    This is the amount of wipes they said they recovered from sewer systems in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, in just one weekend.
