    It looks very cosy ... work's almost finished on a new cattery at the RSPCA rehoming centre in Derby.

  6. Two factors in baby's hospital death, inquest hears

    More now on the inquest at Derby Coroners' Court today into the death of a baby in hospital ... a pathologist said it was highly likely two factors contributed - an infection in mum Danielle and her placenta not providing enough oxygen.

    The court was told Danielle could also have had gestational diabetes which went undetected.

    The inquest continues. 

  7. Roads remain closed in Peak District

    Here's another snowy landscape from one of our Weather Watchers Heatherbell showing Hollinsclough earlier today.

    The snow is still an issue in parts of the Peak District and both the A57 Snake Pass and A6024 Holme Moss remain closed.

  8. Inquest hears baby died at hospital

    An inquest has heard how a baby died just hours after being born by emergency cesarean at Royal Derby Hospital.

    Danielle Barton and James Brusby's daughter Amelia died shortly before Christmas in 2014.

    A pathologist today told Derby Coroners' Court Amelia was a very large baby and died from hypoxia.

    The inquest continues.

    Derbyshire Senior Cup winners Alfreton Town finish their National League North season at North Ferriby United tomorrow.

    The Reds are unbeaten in 12 away games dating back to last year.

  10. Woman dies in house fire

    It's been confirmed an elderly woman died in a house fire at Donisthorpe yesterday.

    The victim hasn't been formally identified, but neighbours say she was in her 80s.  

    Fire investigators have returned to the scene on Acresford Road today to determine the cause, but it's not though to have been started deliberately.

  13. Tomasz Bachta stabbing: Family won't forget those responsible

    The family of Tomasz Bachta say "no punishment" will ease their sorrow on the day the four men who killed him were jailed.

    Staffordshire Police said Mr Bachta was attacked after working a night shift on 15 July.

    In a statement, his family said that day changed their whole lives, calling Tomasz a "beloved son, brother and uncle".

  14. Judge rejects secrecy request over sex offender

    A judge has rejected an application by Derbyshire Police to keep the identity of a Polish sex offender a secret.

    The force wanted to prevent the publication of Marcin Jaworski's name and address in Shirebrook over an application to put him on the sex offenders' register.

    Police were concerned about community tensions in the area linked to the large number of eastern European people who live and work there.

  15. Rams midfield pair return to squad

    While Burton are desperate to avoid the lottery of the play-offs in their promotion bid, Derby County are already guaranteed a place in the Championship's end-of-season lottery.

    The Rams' bank holiday weekend trip to Brighton has been switched to Monday.

  16. Police grateful for 'critical information' in murder convictions

    Staffordshire Police's investigating officer Det Insp Dan Ison said: "The actions of these men have ruined the lives of Tomasz’ family and friends and my thoughts remain with Ana [Tomasz’s mother] and them all at this difficult time.

    "I would like to thank the community of Burton for having the confidence to provide police with critical information that helped gain these successful convictions.

    "Today’s sentences are welcomed and I hope that they go some way to reassure all residents of Staffordshire that we will not tolerate such crime and that positive action will be brought against persons that commit acts of violence in our streets."

  17. Walker suffers leg fracture

    A walker who slipped and suffered a broken leg at Middle Moor was taken to hospital in Stockport.

    Mountain rescue teams from Glossop and Kinder carried her to a farm where an ambulance was waiting, as bad weather prevented a helicopter rescue yesterday.
