    Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough remains in optimistic mood for tonight's game against Peterborough United, despite Saturday's shock home defeat against Shrewsbury Town.

    "It's another opportunity for us. If we get a point or three we can go back top," Clough told BBC Radio Derby.

    "We were both unlucky not to get something from our games on Saturday. They will think they have an outside chance of making the top two because there are still 20 games to go. It should be a good open game."

  4. Cost-cutting bridges funding gap

    Staffordshire's police and crime commissioner says spending money more effectively has allowed a £6.4m budget gap to be filled.

    Matthew Ellis said replacing back office support roles with police staff had reduced costs.

    He also said managing police buildings more efficiently had saved £398,000 and he has frozen the amount of council tax that goes towards policing for the fourth year in a row.

  5. Van crash blocks A38

    More on the accident on the A38 northbound in Burton where a van has gone into the central reservation.

    Derbyshire Police says the road is blocked and traffic is at a standstill in both directions.

    Police are warning motorists to avoid the area and say the air ambulance is at the scene and treating the driver.

    It's not yet clear when the road is likely to reopen.

  7. Brewers target top spot

    Burton go to Peterborough tonight aiming to return to the top of League One.

    A win or a draw would regain top spot for the Brewers, although Walsall could become the new leaders with victory at Fleetwood and if Burton fail to win.

    Burton boss Nigel Clough believes Graham Westley has made their opponents a better team since taking charge in September.

    It's been confirmed that delayed roadworks on part of the M1 in Derbyshire won't be finished until the spring, almost a year late.

  12. Butterfield stunned by 'crazy' loss

    Derby County's Jacob Butterfield says there were signs they were getting back to their best at Burnley and described the 4-1 loss as a "crazy night".

    The Rams conceded three goals in 12 second-half minutes at Turf Moor and are now winless in five league games.

    Butterfield, whose volley levelled the scores at 1-1, told BBC Radio Derby: "In the first half we were the better team and played some brilliant stuff. Before we knew it, we were 3-1 down in a game we have dominated."

  13. Brewery posts record festive season profits

    Marston's, which has a brewery in Burton, has posted record profits over the Christmas period for the fourth year in a row.

    Like-for-like sales rose 2.5% at the food-led outlets, in the 16 weeks to 23 January.

    The company owns about 1,600 pubs and brews ales such as Pedigree and Hobgoblin.
