  2. Weather: Frosty night and risk of freezing fog

    There will be a widespread frost overnight with temperatures down to -2C in the towns but as low as -5C in rural areas.

    There will also be some patchy freezing fog forming again too.

    Any mist and fog will clear quickly in the morning, before the cloud increases during the day and the winds pick up, but it will stay cold with highs of 4C (39F).

    Derby County have strengthened their academy with the signings of Cheltenham Town forward Luke Thomas and Ilkeston's 17-year-old striker Lewis Walker.

    Walker is the son of former England defender Des.

  4. Cycling plan wheeled out for Derbyshire

    Plans to make Derbyshire the most well-connected cycling county in the country have been announced.

    The 15-year plan aims to double the percentage of commuters and children travelling by bicycle and increase investment in cycling schemes.

    It's been put together by the Derbyshire Cycling Plan strategic group and it is hoped that benefits will include an increase in tourism, participation in sport and reduced congestion. 

  5. New date for Amber Valley housing plans

    A plan setting out where houses should be built in Amber Valley won't be ready now until March 2017.

    The borough council withdrew its previous plans in December saying they weren't achievable.

    Any further delays could see the government take control of the process away from Amber Valley.

  7. Economy key area in Labour election defeat, says Derby MP

    Derby South MP Dame Margaret Beckett says Labour lost the general election because the party didn't convince voters to trust them, particularly on the economy.

    She says Labour hasn't overcome the "huge myth" spread by the Conservatives that the party caused the financial crash of 2008.

  8. Woman wanted over bus fare fraud

    Police have released images of a woman they want to speak to about a bus fare fraud.

    It's alleged a man and a woman have been using copies of the same money voucher on several occasions to claim cash from different drivers.

    The vouchers are issued by bus drivers if they have run out of change so that the passenger can claim it back.

    Officers believe they may have boarded buses in Chesterfield and Mastin Moor  on Wednesday 23 December and Thursday 24 December.

  9. Fire service issues safe parking warning

    Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service is reminding people to park vehicles responsibly in narrow streets after being unable to drive to a property in Clay Cross.

    Local fire crews were responding to a reported house fire last night, but could not get a fire engine past cars parked on both sides of the road.

    Tweeting a picture of the scene, the fire service said luckily it turned out to be a false alarm.  

  10. Three teenagers among four arrested over stabbing

    Police say the four males arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in Derby last night are aged 15, 16, 17 and 22.

    An investigation is under way after a 22-year-old man died from stab wounds today, and police are still appealing for witnesses.

  12. Ambulance service's time wasted by hoax calls

    More than 500 hoax or inappropriate calls were made in the last year to the West Midlands Ambulance Service, which covers East Staffordshire.

    They include a person who lost their keys, and another who needed a drink, prompting bosses to release audio clips in an attempt to prevent such calls being repeated.

  13. Lifeline for community transport in Derbyshire

    Campaigners have cautiously welcomed plans to revamp community transport in Derbyshire.

    A 20,000-name petition was handed to the county council in December, after it proposed cutting the dial-a-bus service for those unable to use other public transport.

    The council's now looking to protect it for 18 months, after which a new, "demand-led" operation will be put in place. 

    The Labour leader in Derbyshire councillor Anne Western says they wouldn't be in this position if their funding wasn't being cut.

    Derby County's youngsters have been knocked out of the FA Youth Cup after losing their fourth round tie 1-0 at Wigan, last night.

    Their opponents will host Manchester City in round five.

  15. Cannabis farm find prompts calls to improve area

    Shoppers in Derby say the discovery of one of the UK's biggest cannabis farms in Derby has left questions about the state of the area and highlights the need for its regeneration.

    Around 3,500 plants were found by police at the former Debenhams store in Victoria Street.

    The upper floors of the building have been out of use since 2007 after the store moved to the Intu centre.

    Derby City Council say it'is publishing a master plan for the area in a few weeks time.

    Alfreton Town are into the Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-finals after thrashing Long Eaton United 6-0 at the Impact Arena, last night.

    Sam Jones scored a hat-trick for the Reds.
