  3. Floods works delay dismays Keswick businesses

Some business owners in Keswick have been dismayed by news that flood prevention work on a main road into the town will overrun.

Cumbria County Council says the scheme to build a pumping station under Penrith Road will not finish in December, as planned, but will continue until February.

    Penrith Road excavations in Keswick

The delay is because of an unexpected water main found in the way of the excavation, and the number of large river boulders that have been encountered.

Steve Curtis from Bramblewood Cottage guest house, says closing the road has already had a big impact on trade, since work began in September:

Quote Message: As you can see, we are on the main road, we have a sign that says we have vacancies, and of course if visitors can't come past, they can't see that we've got vacancies." from Steve Curtis
