  1. Railway lines re-open

    The railway line between Birmingham New Street and International has re-opened.

    It was closed when a train hit a person near International earlier this morning, causing rush hour disruption for passengers.

    Trains are likely to remain delayed for the next hour or so as services settle, but Virgin Trains' 08:50 service to London Euston has set off, calling at all stations - including International and Coventry.

  2. Train delays: Replacement bus service in operation

    A replacement bus service is running between Birmingham New Street and Coventry after a person was hit by a train near Birmingham International this morning, causing delays that are expected to last until at least midday.

    Network Rail in Birmingham says buses will be available outside New Street's main entrance, near the TK Maxx store.

    Passengers are being told to follow the hashtag #BirminghamInt on Twitter.

    All train lines between Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International are "blocked" this morning, Virgin Trains says. 

    The train operator is warning passengers to expect delays after a person was hit by a train.

    London Midland and Chiltern Railway are accepting tickets and buses have been requested to operate between Birmingham New Street and Coventry.

    National Rail says delays are expected to last until about 12:00.

  13. Man jailed for £20m drugs import attempt

    A Birmingham man who tried to smuggle £20m worth of ecstasy tablets and cannabis through Coventry Airport has been jailed for nine years.

    Simon Dunmore, 41, from St Mary's Row in Moseley admitted six counts of importing drugs at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday.

    Seven packages were seized by Border Force officials in May last year, addressed to Dunmore's catering business address in Harborne Road, containing skunk and MDMA hydrochloride, the chemical used in ecstasy tablets.

    When Dunmore went to collect a further consignment of 100,000 ecstasy tablets, police officers were waiting to arrest him.
