  4. Application submitted to create Stratford 'restaurant quarter'

    Some traders in a Stratford shopping arcade are being warned they may have to close or relocate if it's transformed in to a "restaurant quarter". 

    Bards Walk

    A planning application's been submitted to expand Bards Walk on Wood Street, but to reduce the number of outlets from 18 to just seven.

    Karen Wild from the town's Stratforward business group says the town has insufficient large retail units to attract big retailers to help boost the town. "Hopefully these changes will assist with that," she said.

  5. Nicola Payne's family say they'll 'never give up' looking for her

    On the 24th anniversary of her disappearance, Nicola Payne's family say they'll never give up looking for her.

    Christmas has always been an incredibly difficult time for her family, but her mum Marilyn has this year decided to once again decorate a tree.

  6. Worst children's services face takeover, PM will say

    Moves to make it easier to take over council children's services failing vulnerable youngsters in England are being announced by the prime minister.  

    Children's services in Coventry were  branded "inadequate" by Ofsted in March 2014.

    Departments judged inadequate by Ofsted will be given six months to improve and then be taken over by high-performing councils and charities if they fail.

    Where departments fail to improve a new "commissioner" will be appointed and experts in child protection sent in.

  8. Benefit sanctions 'causing homelessness'

    There are claims that many people are being made homeless because their benefits are being sanctioned. 

    A recent report for charity Crisis suggested more than 20% of people sanctioned in the last year became homeless as a result. 

    Nobby Clarke, project co-ordinator at Coventry Winter Night Shelter, says there needs to be a more humane approach to those claiming benefits.

  9. Jobs to go at Nuneaton and Bedworth council

    Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council say they're looking to make a number of job cuts and possible cuts to services, to deal with a government shortfall in funding.

    At least 16 redundancies are expected to be made, as the authority attempts to make savings. 

    The Labour leader on the Borough Council, Dennis Harvey, says they're facing a difficult situation but have, until now, managed to avoid redundancies.

    "We haven't slashed jobs and have kept services going but we have lost 44% of our government grant since 2010 and the situation is now becoming desperate".

  10. Travel: Slow traffic southbound on M6

    An earlier accident on the M6 southbound in Leicestershire is having a knock-on effect on travel around the region.

  12. 'Huge rise' in newborn babies subject to care proceedings

    There has been a "huge" rise in the number of newborns who are subject to care proceedings in England, according to figures compiled for the first time.

    The West Midlands had 530 looked after children aged under 12 months on 31 March this year, 45 of which are in the Coventry area.

    About half were taken from mothers with other children in care - one woman had 16 children removed - and a third were from women who became mothers as teens.

    Police searching for missing Coventry man Filip Kalinowski say that they have found a body.

    Swanswell Park

    A specialist water search team recovered the body from Swanswell Pool in the city centre at around 10:45.

    No formal identification has yet taken place and the area remains cordoned off pending a thorough forensic examination of the scene.
