  1. How many scouts does it take to change a light bulb?

    Scouts learn how to change a light bulb

    King Alfred's Academy, in Highbridge, is one of the first state secondary school to set up its own scout group attached to a school.

    Students will learn basic skills including how to change a light bulb, how to boil an egg and ironing.

    English teacher and group scout leader Elizabeth Harvey said: "Scouting teaches young people those skills like communication, resilience, the ability to work as a team and to try new things."

  2. Royal Marines receive award for hurricane relief support

    Somerset-based 40 Commando Royal Marines will be presented with the Firmin Sword of Peace later this morning.

    It's for their hurricane relief support during Op Ruman in 2017, when the Caribbean Islands were left devastated by Hurricane Irma.

    The Royal Navy said the award is given for activities above and beyond the unit's normal role which improve relations with the community.

  3. A4 in Marlborough to be closed for resurfacing

    Roadworks

    A stretch of the A4 in Marlborough is being shut every weekday evening for a month from today.

    The road between Elcot Lane and Savernake Hospital is being resurfaced.

    New road markings to make it safer are being painted also. It will be closed during the evenings from Monday to Friday between 7pm and midnight until 3 May.
