  3. T20 Cricket season starts with West derby

    The T20 cricket season gets underway for our local teams this evening, with a West derby in Taunton.

    Somerset host Gloucestershire in the first of two head-to-head games in the next week.

    Gloucestershire head coach Richard Dawson spoke to the BBC ahead of the clash.

  4. It's the 40th anniversary of the Taunton train fire

    Today marks the 40th anniversary of one of the worst ever rail disasters in the West Country.

    The Taunton sleeper train fire claimed 12 lives and led to big changes in the design of carriages.

    BBC Points West's Clinton Rogers, who reported on the fire at the time, has been looking back on the tragedy that could have been prevented.

  7. World cup winner to open SwinDome this weekend

    Sir Geoff Hurst

    Former world cup hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst will be at Swindon Supermarine on Sunday to cut the ribbon to their new indoor football facility.

    The club kick off their pre-season friendlies against YouTubers Hashtag United on Saturday before Sir Geoff officially opens the club’s SwinDome on Sunday.

    Let's hope he's doing it with a smile on his face from an England victory on Saturday.

All lanes have been re-opened. Travel time is an hour and 20 minutes. Congestion to J23, A39 (Bridgwater North).

  9. Police from around country drafted in to Amesbury

    Police officers from around England have been drafted in to Wiltshire to assist with the ongoing incident involving two people poisoned by the nerve agent Novichok.

    The pair remain in a critical condition in hospital.

    Wiltshire's Chief Constable thanked forces from Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire on Twitter.

    One of the worst disasters in West Country rail history happened near Taunton 40 years ago today.

    A sleeper train, on its way from Penzance to Paddington, caught fire.

    It caused the death of 12 people - most of them suffocated by smoke as they slept.

    The blaze was caused by laundry which was stacked against an electric heater.

    Firefighters arrived within four minutes but were slowed down by locked doors.

    These people who were involved in the tragedy were interviewed by BBC News on 6 July 1978.
