  3. 'Don't cut specialist support for deaf children' says charity

Video caption: Watch: Sarah Collinson says deaf children are not achieving as well as hearing children

Some parents in the West of England say they're worried plans to cut support for deaf children around Somerset, Bristol and Bath will leave their children floundering.

There are nearly 2,000 deaf children in our region.

Figures show they tend to have worse outcomes at GCSE - on average a whole grade lower - than those who can hear.

And campaigners fear that proposals to cut funding by up to £270,000 will cause that gap to grow.

Sarah Collinson from the National Deaf Children's Society says with the right support deaf children should be able to do just as well as their hearing counterparts.

  4. Essential tree works close A37 at Pensford

    Road closed sign

Part of the A37 at Pensford has been shut to allow for essential maintenance work.

The condition of four trees on private land next to the road has deteriorated following a landslip and they need to be felled and removed to ensure the safety of road users.

It's hoped the work - between Bristol and the A368 Chelwood roundabout - will be completed by the end of Saturday, according to Bath and North East Somerset council.

The contractor has put in place a diversion route which goes from the A368 to the A39, then on to the A4, before returning to the A37.

  5. Fatal crash in Somerset prompts appeal

    Scene of a crash

A fatal crash involving two cars in Chewton Mendip, Somerset, has sparked a police appeal for witnesses.

The collision happened on Thursday, between Bathway and Red Quar in Torhole Bottom, at 22:20 BST.

A man aged in his 20s, who was driving one of the cars, died as a result of injuries sustained.

"It is possible that a white Mercedes may have been travelling along the road before the collision took place," said an Avon and Somerset Police spokesman.

Any witnesses are asked to contact the police.

Emergency crews have been attending a bus crash on Deep Street in Cheltenham.

The police have said there were no serious injuries and it was unclear how or why the crash had happened.
