  2. Duchess of Cornwall reopens historic Bath almshouse

    Bath had a royal visitor today when the Duchess of Cornwall dropped by to reopen parts of St John's Foundation almshouse. 

    They were first founded in the city back in 1174 and underwent refurbishment recently, to help support the elderly people who live there. 

    Sue Porto is the chief executive of St John's Foundation and said the duchess was delighted to return, after she last visited in 2010:

  3. Building a new road for tanks

    Video caption: Work's under way on Salisbury Plain to build special tracks

    Construction work is underway on Salisbury Plain to build a special 1.5km track for tanks.

    The new route will mean large army vehicles can bypass using public roads near Bulford.

    The tracks are being created between Ward Barracks and the Salisbury Plain training area. 

    It's part of work to prepare for Service personnel returning from Germany in 2019 under the Army Basing Programme.

  4. BBC Points West 60: Remembering British servicemen killed in Iraq

    This year we're reflecting on 60 years of BBC Points West broadcasts and remembering some of the stories reported on

    In January 2005, the West was mourning the loss of 10 British servicemen in Iraq. 

    Many had been based in Wiltshire and their deaths led to changes in aircraft design that could prevent future lives being lost:

  5. Cyclist hit-and-run caught on CCTV

    CCTV video of a car pulling out of a street and hitting a cyclist before driving off without stopping has been released by police. 

    The collision happened in the early hours of Wednesday 25 January on Chapel Street in Swindon. 

    The cyclist was unhurt. Wiltshire Police have appealed for help to trace the owner of the car, believed to be a Vauxhall Corsa. 

    "The driver did not stop and drove off in the opposite direction (towards Cricklade Road) switching their lights off in the process," said the force.

    The 26-year-old striker has moved from Bristol Rovers to rivals Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.

    "I think we've got ourselves a natural goalscorer," Bristol City manager Lee Johnson told the club website.

    "It'll be a big step up in standard for him, but he's been able to deal with every challenge that's been thrown at him so far in his career."
