Council Tax in Bristol is set to rise by 5 per cent from April.

Following weeks of consultation the council has released details of £64m worth of savings.

Plans include closing library buildings, cutting bus subsidies, support for the vulnerable and funding for the city's parks.

Parking charges will also increase, with free Sunday parking set to be scrapped.

A full list of the proposed savings will be available on the council's website this evening.

    Lagoon photo

A Gloucester-based energy company looks set to benefit from a £1.3bn tidal lagoon project in Swansea Bay

They will be used to generate electricity using the tides by letting water into, or releasing it, from the lagoons.

Water entering or leaving the lagoons will rush past turbines connected to electricity generators.

Tidal Lagoon Power, which has a base at Gloucester Docks, hopes this could lead to a development of larger lagoons around the UK coast.

There are plans to build one of them near Bridgwater.
