All times stated are UK

  1. Our live coverage

Our live updates have ended for today.

We'll be back tomorrow from 06:00 running our election results coverage.

In the meantime you can find your local news here.

  2. Work on city centre apartment block begins

Work to create a new 36-apartment scheme in Coventry city centre has begun.

    Proposed scheme

The £5.5m Sirius project will see 28 one-bedroom apartments along with eight two-bedroom properties created at Ironmonger Row, at the top of The Burges and Cross Cheaping.

Two storeys clad in a bronze coloured metal will be added to the current mid-century building.

The building will also feature office space for use by residents, developers EDG Property said.

It is set to be completed in summer 2022.

  3. #Dogsatpollingstations

One of the highlights of polling day is the flurry of cute dog pictures on social media.

Voters have already been busy posting snaps of their furry friends accompanying them to the ballot box. These are just a few so far.

If you do take your pooch, remember you will most likely have to leave it outside while you cast your ballot, unless it is an assistance dog.

Here is Boswell, being a very good boy, outside a station in Birmingham.

If Boswell isn't enough you can see more pooches at polling stations here.

  4. Stolen dog reunited with owners

A Cockapoo puppy who was stolen from outside a supermarket in Nuneaton has been found safe and well, police said.

The dog with a police officer

Blossom went missing after her owners shopped in Spar in Lutterworth Road at about 17:15 on Saturday.

She was found earlier today on Ryton Pools in Bubbenhall.

Warwickshire Police is investigating the theft and has appealed for information about a light-coloured BMW car that was seen outside the shop at the time of the incident.

"Dog theft is a callous and emotive crime," Insp Sally Bunyard-Spiers said.

  5. Arson arrest after house fire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a house fire in Leamington Spa.

Emergency services were called to an address on Cubbington Road at about 22:15 on Wednesday.

There were no reported injuries, however police said the damage to the house was "extensive".

The 24-year-old suspect from the town is currently in police custody and detectives are treating the fire as an isolated incident.

  6. Village green used as polling station after fire

    BBC Radio Stoke

A polling station has reopened after a fire forced voters to cast their ballot on the village green.

    The temporary polling station

Election staff were safely evacuated from the building on Audlem Road, Hankelow, near Nantwich, Cheshire East Council said.

While fire crews put the blaze out, people cast their vote at vehicles set up on the village green.

The council said the polling station reopened later on Thursday afternoon.

  7. Prison urged to improve training to prevent future deaths

The senior coroner for Worcestershire has written to HMP Long Lartin in South Littleton raising concerns about the death of a prisoner in custody.

    HMP Long Lartin

An inquest into the death of Richard Ormond at the prison in January 2019 found it was drugs related, but coroner David Reid raised concerns about a delay in getting him emergency treatment.

He said prison staff failed to provide the ambulance service with critical information about Mr Ormand's condition and as a result he was not given the highest category emergency response, causing a delay of about nine minutes before he received medical aid.

Mr Reid said HMP Long Lartin "did not appear to recognise" this failure during Mr Ormond's inquest and was concerned healthcare staff at the prison "may still not recognise the need to update [the ambulance service] with critical information about a patient's condition in similar circumstances".

  8. Forgot to return a postal vote?

    Don't panic.

If you applied for a postal vote but have yet to return it, you can hand it into your local polling station before polls close at 22:00.
