  4. Plans unveiled for city centre block of flats

    A new five-storey apartment block is being planned for Coventry city centre.

    Development plans

    The scheme has been proposed at a site on Well Street and Bishop Street, next to the student accommodation block The Study Inn.

    The mixed-use development would provide about six retail or office units on the ground floor and up to 40 one and two-bedroom flats on the upper floors.

  6. Three arrested at HS2 protest camp

    Three people who've been campaigning against the clearance of woodland along the proposed HS2 route near Leamington Spa have been arrested.

    Confirming the trio were part of the Save Cubbington Woods Group, spokesperson Nikki Jones said members were calling for tree and hedge removal to be suspended amid fresh uncertainty on whether the high-speed rail plan would go ahead.

    Warwickshire Police said one person was arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass, and two detained on suspicion of a breach of the peace.

    The arrests were made on Church Road in Offchurch this morning.

  12. Parents 'always thankful' to stem cell donor

    The parents of an eight-year-old boy who underwent a stem cell transplant for his rare immune system disorder say they hope one day to thank his donor in person.

    Finley Hill, from Belbroughton, Worcestershire, was diagnosed in March 2019 with a condition affecting white blood cells' ability to clear infections.

    An appeal for a stem cell donor turned up a match in Brazil in September and Finley's treatment began at Birmingham Children's Hospital in November.

    Last month at the hospital he formally marked the end of his treatment. His story will feature on Inside Out West Midlands on BBC One this evening from 19:30.

    Finley's father Paul Hill said: "What can you say to someone that's saved my boy's life? How can I thank him?"
