  2. Erdington shooting: 'I'm very frightened' - neighbour

    Neighbours living on a street in Birmingham where a man was fatally shot this afternoon have described it as a "lovely neighbourhood".

    West Midlands Police started a murder investigation after saying the 28-year-old was shot on Church Road, Erdington at around midday.

    One neighbour told me she heard "enormous screaming between two or three men" but didn't see anything as she was "too frightened to open my door".

    Another added that it was: "Very shocking to me, very concerning especially as I'm living on my own, I'm very frightened myself."

  4. Erdington shooting: Firearms offences 'rise in city'

    As police probe a fatal shooting in Birmingham this afternoon, the latest government figures show the city has more than double the national average of gun crimes.

    The latest Office of National Statistics figures show West Midlands Police recorded 24 offences per 100,000 residents between 2017 and 2018.

    The average for England and Wales was 11 and every other police force recorded a lower average apart from the Metropolitan Police.

    The statistics also show that, after a fall in recorded firearms offences from 2007 to 2016, the number started to rise from 542 in 2015-16 to 681 in 2017-18.

  6. Erdington shooting: Community 'truly shocked'

    Birmingham MP Jack Dromey says the entire community of Erdington "is truly shocked" by the fatal shooting of a man this afternoon.

    The 28-year-old was killed on Church Road with West Midlands Police saying they've started a murder inquiry.

    Mr Dromey added that local people would "back the police to track down his killer".

  8. Erdington shooting: Neighbour 'saw victim lying on ground'

    I've arrived on Church Road, Erdington, Birmingham this afternoon after a fatal shooting this afternoon was confirmed by police.

    A neighbour's told me she saw a victim lying on the ground in front of a silver-coloured car.

    The street has been sealed off and at least two tents have been put up by West Midlands Police.

  9. Erdington shooting: Paramedics fought to save man's life

    The ambulance service has confirmed paramedics treated one patient involved in the fatal shooting in Birmingham this afternoon.

    They say they had reports of a gunshot incident on Church Road, Erdington, at midday.

    Paramedics found one man who was in cardiac arrest but say, despite performing CPR and giving him advanced life support, he died at the scene.

  11. Erdington murder: Shootings 'are rare'

    A Birmingham councillor has moved to try and reassure people living in Erdington this afternoon by saying fatal shootings in the area are "rare".

    It comes after West Midlands Police confirmed it had launched a murder investigation after a 28-year-old man was shot dead on Church Road.

    Local Erdington councillor Robert Alden said: "We are a wonderful community here locally, this kind of event is rare."

    A murder investigation's under way in Birmingham, police have now confirmed, following a fatal shooting this afternoon.

    West Midlands Police said a 28-year-old man was shot on Church Road, Erdington.

    Officers say his family have been informed and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

  13. Payout from MG Rover liquidators

    Liquidators at PwC say they will distribute a further £5.2m to unsecured creditors, including 1,200 former employees, of Powertrain, part of the MG Rover Group which manufactured engines and gearboxes.

    About 6,000 workers lost their jobs when the Longbridge-based firm entered administration in 2005.

    PwC said the 4.74p in the pound payout to a total of 1,700 unsecured creditors brings the total return to date to Powertrain’s unsecured creditors to 39.74p - a total of £43.7m.

    Matthew Hammond, PwC Midlands region chairman, said: "The collapse of the MG Rover Group impacted many families and communities.

    "Our teams working on this case have brought to life one of our key purposes of solving important problems - in this case the size and complexity of the MG Rover Group and enabling a significant return to creditors.”

  14. Birmingham street 'sealed off' as police flood area

    Emergency services have been called to a road in Birmingham this afternoon.

    The ambulance service says the incident happened at around midday on Church Road, Erdington.

    A photograph taken by Twitter user @alexhaines123 which he says is of the scene shows several police cars and an ambulance on the street, which has been sealed off.

    Two local councillors have told the BBC they will be working with the police to find out what's happened.
