  6. Couple out of pocket after holiday blunder

    A Sutton Coldfield couple have been left more than £1,000 out of pocket after a holiday blunder.

    Richella Heekin, 26, spent two years planning a surprise 30th birthday trip to Las Vegas for her boyfriend, Ben Marlow. 

    But they turned up at Birmingham Airport to find Richella had booked flights from Birmingham, Alabama, in the US. 

    She said: "I literally, my face... dropped. I was devastated."

  7. Travel: M6 northbound delays

    There is slow traffic on the M6 northbound between J6, for the Aston Expressway, and J7, for Great Barr, because of an earlier breakdown, drivers are warned.

  8. Inderjit Dhariwal: Bouncer jailed for one-punch killing at Oldbury charity event

    A bouncer has been jailed for six years and eight months for assaulting guests at a charity fundraiser and punching one man dead with a single blow, say police.

    Nicolas Salhan (pictured top) was among security staff hired for the event in Samsons banqueting suite, Oldbury, on 21 November last year, said West Midlands Police.

    The 37-year-old Salhan – from Haybridge Avenue in Stourbridge – swung a punch at father-of-three Inderjit Dhariwal as he challenged another doorman, Jonathan Davies, over his aggressive attitude. Davies admitted a charge of affray and was jailed for two years and four months, said police. 

    Mr Dhariwal suffered fractures to bones in his throat and a fatal head injury as he fell to the floor. He was taken to hospital where he was placed in an induced coma, but later declared dead.

  12. Driver dies weeks after fire engine collision

    An elderly man has died in hospital after his car was involved in a collision with a fire engine in Sutton Coldfield. 

    The engine and its crew were on their way to a 999 call when the crash happened on Kingstanding Road on 11 March. 

    The man - in his 80s - was treated in hospital but passed away some weeks later. The fire service said an investigation was continuing.

  16. Shane Sutton: British Cycling chief resigns amid sexism and discrimination claims

    British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton has resigned amid claims of sexism and discrimination towards elite cyclists.

    He had been suspended while the sporting body investigated allegations of derogatory comments about Para-cyclists.

    Great Britain cyclist and former Halesowen Cycling Club sprinter Jess Varnish previously said Sutton made sexist comments towards her and told her to "go and have a baby".

    Sutton, 58, has denied all wrongdoing.

  17. Walsall interim head coach on promotion chances and previous job

    Walsall interim head coach Jon Whitney says "credit to the club and the fans" for not losing belief, as the Saddlers bounced back from the 4-0 defeat at Bradford City by beating Shrewsbury Town.

    The 2-1 win on Tuesday guaranteed at least a play-off place in League One, while narrowing the gap on second-placed Burton Albion to three points.  

    Whitney (pictured above) told BBC WM: "I've heard from some sources that we haven't got a cat in hell's chance in the play-offs. But that fuels me." 

    He added: "I dug graves for two-and-a-half years. This is a doddle compared to digging clay graves at six o'clock in the morning."
