  2. Police confirm a man died in A33 incident

    Quote Message: Thames Valley Police officers were called at 5.14am today following reports of a collision involving two vehicles on the A33 in Reading. The ambulance service also attended the scene where a man had sadly died. The A33 was closed in both directions but has since reopened. A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in police custody. Further details will be released later today. from Thames Valley Police

  3. A33 open in both directions

    Police have opened the A33 in both directions following a fatal collision earlier this morning. 

    One lane remains closed out of town as recovery takes place of the damaged vehicle.

  4. Clear-up under way

    Our reporter on the scene tells us the fire service is now clearing the closed section of the road, following the fatal collision earlier.

    The A33 is now back open in both directions past the Matalan junction with a small diversion via the Audi garage while the clear-up takes place.

    • Queues on A4 from Sonning over Shepherds Hill roundabout and down into Reading

    • Heavy traffic on Southampton Street, the IDR, through Shinfield, on the A3290, A4 in Southcote, Bath Road west of the town centre, Basingstoke Road, Northumberland Avenue and in Caversham on Gosbrook Road
  6. Traffic at its worst towards M4

    BBC Berkshire's reporters have been sending us images from across the town. Traffic in the town centre has eased in places, but there are still major delays towards all M4 junctions, despite the A33 now being re-opened.

  7. Tilehurst looking good

    Quote Message: Tilehurst is actually okay right now. The main problems are any of those main routes that go to and from the M4 motorway, towards junction 10, 11 or 12 are struggling big time.   8. Some roads re-open

    The police are now letting drivers go through the slip road by the Audi garage on the A33 to allow traffic to travel south out of town.

    And northbound police have now opened one lane past the incident near the Matalan junction.

  10. Closed for at least two hours

    The police have just told us that they expect the A33 to remain closed for at least two hours as they deal with investigations following a fatal accident this morning.

  11. 'No go area'

    The closure and traffic problems are likely to remain through the morning according to Simon Beasley who runs the traffic systems in Reading for the borough council.

    He tells us there has been damage to traffic signals on the site and his engineers are there making repairs already.
