  2. Weather: A wet evening ahead

    After a wet evening with some further heavy and persistent rain, it will turn drier overnight but with further scattered showers in places. 

    Despite this, in any clearer spells it will turn colder than of late. Maximum temperature: 10C (50F).

  3. New station work under way at Leighton Buzzard Railway

    Work has begun on a new station at the Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway after more than £300,000 was raised for the museum.

    Chairman Terry Bendall, who has been overseeing the renovations which began yesterday when the entrance arch was removed from the old building, said: "It's an historic day for the railway."

    The new building will provide museum and retail space for the railway which runs to the Stonehenge Works. It is scheduled to be completed in June.

  6. UK house price growth picks up in December

    Average house prices grew strongly in December according to the latest survey from building society Nationwide.

    Prices rose 0.8% in the month compared with 0.1% in November.

    Overall in 2015, house prices rose by 4.5%, with the average price of a property in the UK now at £196,999.

  7. Travel: Road closures due to fallen trees and power cables

    The A409 Commonr Road in Bushey is blocked in both directions due to a fallen tree at High Road.

    Mill Road remains closed in Sharnbrook due to fallen power cables at Templars Way.

  8. Dunstable house crash family unsure how long repairs will take

    A family from Dunstable, who had a lucky escape yesterday after a car ended up in their living room, say they're unsure how long the damage will take to fix.

    The car crashed into the front of the house along Luton Road, where the children aged 17, nine and five had been playing video games just 15 minutes before.

    "I don't know what's going to happen, [the children] are scared now to go in the living room," father Blaise Baheten said. His landlord is in discussion with the insurance company.

  9. UK floods: Hertfordshire crews sent to provide some relief

    The chief fire officer for Hertfordshire says the county has sent support to provide some relief for the fire crews tackling floods in the north.

    Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service have sent specialist teams and equipment to Cumbria to help in the fight against the floods.

    Chief fire officer, Roy Wilsher, who is a National Strategic Advisor, said, "It's been a trying time for everyone."

  11. Man shot in Luton in early hours

    A man has been shot in the Marsh Farm area of Luton.

    The shooting happened shortly after midnight in Wexham Close where a man was found with an injury to his leg.

    Police say this was "an isolated incident" and that they "do not believe there is a threat to the wider public". The man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.  

  12. Croxley Rail Link handed to Transport for London

    Plans to build the Croxley Rail Link in Hertfordshire have been formally handed over to Transport for London. The cost of the line has more than doubled and work won't be fully completed until 2020.

    The project, now known as the Metropolitan Line Extension, was being led by Hertfordshire County Council but, due to the escalating cost, the government asked Transport for London to take over.

    The line will provide an Underground rail link to central London with two new stations at Cassiobridge and Vicarage Road. It's claimed it will also help create 6,500 permanent jobs.

  13. Teen charged over vandalism of skate park CCTV

    Police investigating the vandalism of a CCTV camera in Dunstable have charged a teenager with criminal damage.

    The camera at the skate park was targeted with a slingshot during October half-term, causing damage totalling about £350.

  14. Two motorbikes stolen over Christmas

    Two motorcycles were stolen from a garage in South Oxhey over Christmas.

    Police say the bikes were taken from the garage in Fleetwood Way between 20:00 on 23 December and 19:00 on Boxing Day.

  15. Travel: Road closed in Sharnbrook due to fallen cables

    Millbrook Road in Sharnbrook is closed in both directions at Templars Way due to fallen power cables.
