  1. Water works set to cause North Yorkshire jams

    Emergency water works in Naburn, York, could lead to traffic jams on your way home tonight.

  2. CCTV appeal after knife and gun-wielding man robs garage

    Police are appealing for witnesses to an armed robbery at a Doncaster petrol station in the early hours of Saturday 6 January.

    A man reportedly entered the Jet petrol station in Balby Road before threatening staff with what is believed to be a knife and a handgun and leaving with money from the till.

    South Yorkshire Police want anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV images above to get in touch.

  3. Leeds Bridge restrictions to begin this weekend

    Planning to drive into Leeds this weekend? Be aware that from Sunday, no traffic will be able to travel north over Leeds Bridge into the city centre.

    This will allow for essential maintenance to be undertaken on the bridge which includes strengthening, cleaning and repainting the bridge.

    The work is expected to take 16 months to complete.

  4. Sheffield police arrest wanted man

    Police in Sheffield have found a wanted man they were searching for.

  7. Crossbow murder victim 'helped those worse off'

    A housing officer who was murdered in a suspected crossbow attack in East Yorkshire "dedicated many hours to helping those worse off than himself", according to the council where he worked.


    Shane Gilmer (pictured), 30, was killed and his pregnant girlfriend Laura Sugden was injured in the attack at their home in the village of Southburn, near Driffield, on Friday night.

    Police launched a manhunt for suspect Anthony Lawrence, whose body was found in a vehicle near Scarborough in North Yorkshire on Sunday.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council's chief executive, Caroline Lacey, said: "Working in housing meant Shane assisted people who were homeless, to move into their own homes and he dedicated many hours to helping those worse off than himself.

    "Many of the people he helped have since expressed their appreciation of what he did for them."

    A school bus full of children skidded on black ice in Bradford this morning, careering into some railings.

    Fortunately no-one was hurt in the incident on Gaisby Lane in Shipley.

  9. Listen: Increase wages to cover fuel costs - Care boss

    A health care boss in North Yorkshire says he wants to see wages for home care workers increased to cover the hike in petrol and diesel prices.

    Director of Riccall Care, Mike Richards, says the cost of fuel is leading to some carers quitting their jobs.

  10. Family's tribute to 'amazing' PC killed in Christmas crash

    The family of PC Dave Fields, who died in a crash on Christmas day, have paid tribute to him ahead of his funeral in Sheffield this afternoon.

    PC Dave Fields was responding to an incident when the marked BMW 3 Series he was driving was in collision with a Citroen C3 on the A57 in Sheffield.

    In a statement, his family say: "Dave was an amazing husband, father and friend who was loved by everyone who knew him. He made us all proud every day and will be missed so much."

    They add that they are "really grateful for the support and incredibly kind wishes we have received from everyone so far".

  12. Leeds United raise £200k for Toby's treatment

    Leeds United have announced they have raised £200,000 for five-year-old Toby Nye's Neuroblastoma treatment.

    The club raised £175,000 for him after players and staff donated a day's pay and midfielder Samu Saiz gave an additional £25,000 this week.

    Toby will attend Leeds United's game on Saturday with Millwall.

    Leeds United Managing Director Angus Kinnear said: “We talk about family and togetherness a lot at our club, it’s a culture we have been determined to reinstate across everyone involved with Leeds and raising this money has truly been a team effort."

  13. Plastic bag and snow blamed for train delays

    A plastic bag caught in overhead power lines has caused problems for North Yorkshire train users heading south today.

    The bag got caught in the overhead lines near St Neots in Cambridgeshire, meaning delays to Virgin Trains East Coast services.

    Poor weather conditions are also affecting journeys to and from London Kings Cross

  14. Yorkshire gets £404,631 Arts Council funding

    Yorkshire has been given £404,631 in the latest round of Arts Council funding out of £1m in Northern grants.

    The biggest awards of £30,000 each went to Leeds-based Heads Together Productions, Interplay Theatre Trust and The Paper Birds Theatre Company with another £30,000 going to the Marsden Jazz Festival based in Kirklees.

    Among the awards in North Yorkshire £28,489 was to The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond.

    While among the grants in South Yorkshire was £29,405 given to Theatre Delicatessen in Sheffield.

  15. Leeds hospitals completely full for three days last week

    Hospitals in Leeds were completely full on three days last week, and almost full for the rest of the week.

    The Royal College of Nursing says patients are put at risk if more than 85% of beds are occupied.

    However new national figures have shown that pressure on the health service has eased slightly in the last week.

  17. New 'state of the art' vets for Huddersfield

    A derelict site in Huddersfield is set to be transformed into a new state of the art veterinary surgery with facilities that "wouldn't be out of place" in a human hospital.

    Donaldson's Vets say it will cost about £1.5million and will be based on Somerset Road.

    Partner Martin Patterson said: "On a site that has been a derelict eyesore for years, we will create a modern spacious veterinary hospital designed for the comfort of our patients and their owners."
