Overnight beach huts construction begins

Work begins next week on 15 overnight beach huts in Bournemouth.

The bespoke huts are being installed at Manor Steps, east of Boscombe Pier.

Bournemouth Borough Council says Manor Steps zig zag will be closed from Tuesday until the end of October while construction work is carried out.

The huts are due to be completed by Easter 2017.

Two charged over death of cyclist in Fordingbridge

Two people have been charged over a fatal crash in Fordingbridge in April.

A 70-year-old cyclist - Richard White - from Salisbury died in hospital following the crash involving a van on the A338.

A 23-year-old man from Salisbury has been charged with causing death by careless driving and perverting the course of justice.

A 22-year-old woman has been charged with failing to disclose the identification of a driver.

Six charged over A35 motorbike crash

Six people are facing charges after three motorbikes crashed on the A35 near Dorchester in May.

Two people - a 16-year-old girl and a 23-year-old man - suffered life-changing injuries in the crash between Yellowham Hill and Puddletown.

The six men, all from Southampton, are due before Weymouth magistrates next month.

  •  A 29-year-old is charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving
  • A 20-year-old is charged with dangerous driving and committing an act likely to pervert the course of justice
  • A 19-year-old is charged with dangerous driving

Missing Poole man Paul McKernan has been found safe and well, police have said. 

A338 closed after four-vehicle crash

The A338 Wessex Way in Bournemouth is closed and there's queuing traffic in both directions between County Gates Roundabout and the B3066 Cambridge Road junction because of an accident involving four vehicles.

There's also congestion on the A3040 Alder Road to Pottery Junction and to St Pauls Roundabout.

Southampton Airport's new drop-off charge starts today.

Outside the main terminal it will cost £1 for 10 mins in the short stay priority area. Drivers can park free for 30 mins in the long stay car park and travellers can then use the airport shuttle bus to get to the terminal.

In Southampton, we have two cruise ships in so there may be slight delays to and from the waterfront.

A discarded cigarette was the cause of a fire which severely damaged a house in Bournemouth, investigators have found. 

The blaze broke out in the house in Pilot Hight Road in West Howe shortly before 05:30 BST.

Fire scene investigators said the fire started after the contents of an ashtray were tipped into a plastic bin, igniting tissues inside. 

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said a family of four escaped unharmed from the house.

New Milton cyclist sustains serious injuries

We can bring you some more details about the serious accident outside Chewton Glen Hotel in New Milton.

A male cyclist has been taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.

The road has now reopened.

Police say it appears at this stage that no other vehicles were involved.

CCTV car to tackle 'irresponsible' parking

A new CCTV car is to patrol Southampton to tackle illegal parking outside schools and at bus stops.

The city council says it's in response to complaints about irresponsible parking putting children at risk.

Last train on Fawley branch line

Fawley's branch line will have no more trains on it after today. The last rail delivery of oil arrived at the refinery this morning.

The majority of deliveries to the site already come by sea. Now the branch line - the least-used railway line in the region - won't be used at all.

Was your car damaged last night?

A 21-year-old man has been arrested amid reports that a car was involved in numerous crashes in Poole yesterday evening.

A black Chrysler was reported to have hit two parked cars in the car park at Alum Chine beach before hitting more vehicles in Poole Road and in the area close to the Civic Centre.

It is not thought that anyone was seriously injured.

I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the Chrysler driving through Poole to contact police. I would also ask anyone who believes their vehicle may have been damaged and has not yet been in contact with us to come forward.

The A337 Christchurch Road in New Milton is closed and there's queuing traffic in both directions between the Western Avenue junction and the Ringwood Road junction because of a serious accident.

It happened near the Chewton Glen Hotel. An air ambulance is in attendance.

Police have released images of someone they believe could have been a witness to an attempted robbery in Bournemouth earlier this month.

A 48-year-old man suffered bruises to his eye and body when a group of men tried to steal valuables from his pockets in Old Christchurch Road on 7 August.

Police said there was no reason to believe the man pictured was involved.
