Spoon-bender Uri Geller commissioned this 12-ft (3.6m) gorilla - made entirely from spoons. Built at the British Ironworks Centre in Oswestry, UK, it features 40,000 spoons which were donated from across the world. It is being moved to the entertainer's home later this week. Photo: Mark Vickers.

Meanwhile in Thailand this week the army staged a military coup, seizing control of the country and detaining the former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra. The constitution was suspended, TV channels blocked and a curfew imposed. Alex Weeks took this photo of an anti-coup demonstration in Bangkok.
