In pictures: Beijing's Olympic venue legacy
As the London Olympics draw closer, questions have arisen about the future of the venues, with Beijing's 2008 Games a key indicator. The "Bird's Nest", or Beijing National Stadium, was the iconic venue and is still actively used for international sports tournaments.

... but this is the same venue now. A sign for a men's changing room lies abandoned by a jetty on the rowing course.
Kayaking events had taken place here. Now, with its water pumped out, the concrete cavity lies empty and dry.

...photographed in April this year, a stray dog rests on a slab of glass nestled between overgrown weeds and shrubs in the grounds of the same field.
Beach volleyball matches were held inside this stadium, which is now covered in torn posters and murals.
Some venues have been re-focused. The National Aquatic Centre, also known as the "water cube", has been used to host fashion shows and as an indoor water park.
