David Bowie dominates 2016 album charts

David Bowie has dominated the album charts for the first quarter of 2016.

The singer has the most entries to the chart with six albums in the top 40, after fans sought out his music in the wake of his death in January.

Adele has sold the most albums this year with 406,000 combined sales of 25, which broke records when it was released in November 2015.

Bowies latest record Blackstar, which was released just days before his death, is in second place.

The album, which topped the chart in the weeks following the singers death had 345,000 combined sales.

Justin Bieber is in third place with his album, Purpose, which is also the most streamed album of the year so far.

There are two further Bowie albums in the top ten with Best of Bowie at four and Nothing Has Changed - The Very Best of at 10.

Further down the chart are his classic albums Hunky Dory at 22, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars at 24 and Aladdin Sane at 38.

Three weeks after his death, David Bowie had lodged 12 albums in the UK top 40, equalling a record set by Elvis Presley in 1977.

Presley is also in the top ten of the most sold albums so far this year with If I Can Dream.

In the singles chart Danish band Lukas Graham are top with 7 Years, which spent five weeks at number one.

The track has combined chart sales of of 857,000.

Justin Bieber has two songs in the top ten with Love Yourself in second place with combined sales of 668,000 and Sorry at six.

Love Yourself spent three weeks at number one in December - with an interruption of the NHS Choir which claimed the Christmas number one.

Love Yourself is also the most-streamed song of the year so far with 40.4 million plays so far this year 2016 - and 77.05 million overall since its release last year.

Zayn Malik, who is currently top of the album chart with his debut solo album Mind of Mine, is at seven with his first solo single Pillow Talk.
