This Morning's Phillip Schofield is to broadcast non-stop on the ITV network for 24 hours to raise cash for charity.

The presenter will begin his challenge on This Morning on 1 December, then carry on across a range of ITV shows and channels until the following day.

His broadcasting feat - thought to be the first of its kind on UK TV - will raise money for the Text Santa appeal.

The 52-year-old's on-air endurance test will precede ITV's Text Santa telethon on 19 December.

Money raised will go to six UK-based charities, among them Teenage Cancer Trust, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Alzheimer's Society.

"So it's out! I'm doing a 24 hour live non-stop broadcast on @itv to launch @ITVTextSanta," the broadcaster tweeted on Thursday.

"Can't actually remember the moment I said yes," he went on, adding "possibly" when one of his followers suggested alcohol had played a part.

An ITV spokeswoman said more details about Schofield's 24-hour challenge would be announced soon.
