US billionaire and philanthropist Warren Buffett is to feature in the season finale of the US version of The Office, it has been reported.

According to US trade paper Variety, the 80-year-old will make a cameo in Thursday's episode.

He will be seen interviewing for the job of office manager as a replacement for Michael Scott, the character Steve Carell played until last month.

He follows Jim Carrey and Ricky Gervais in making a cameo appearance.

Gervais, who created the show and starred as David Brent in the UK version, appeared in the US series in February.

He reprised his role as Brent for the brief appearance.

Last year, Carell announced he was leaving the hit show to spend more time with his children.

Carell has starred in The Office since NBC launched its version of the "mockumentary" comedy series in 2005.

The show has won several TV awards, including Emmys and a Golden Globe.
