Off-road 'Desert' bikers given seizure notices

Six off-road bikers in Mansfield have been warned their vehicles will be seized if they continue to ride illegally on private land.

It's after police visited “The Desert” - a sandy area of land near the Oak Tree lane estate, which the force says is popular with off-road vehicle enthusiasts.

They are not legally allowed on the site and concerns had been raised by walkers, residents and landowners.

On Sunday, officers issued the riders with Section 59 warning notices - giving police the power to seize the vehicles if they are seen being ridden in an antisocial manner again.

Arrest after high-speed crash near pub car park

A car which was travelling at a high speed crashed into a building near a pub car park and caught fire.

The crash, by the White Lion in Selston, was reported to police just before 23:30 on Thursday.

A 21-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and released under investigation.

Two people were reportedly seen walking away from the car.

Ch Insp Christopher Sullivan, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a serious incident where luckily no one was hurt."

He appealed for anyone that saw the two people leave the scene to come forward.

Funding for new pedestrian bridge over River Trent

A new pedestrian footbridge over the River Trent in Nottingham will be completed in the next three or four years.

The long-awaited bridge, open to cyclists and pedestrians, has now received £9.2m in funding from the Government.

However one condition of the funding is that it has to be spent – or committed to be spent – before April 2023, and work needs to have got under way by then.

Detailed plans are yet to be drawn up for the bridge, but it is expected to go between Lady Bay Bridge and Trent Bridge.

It will link to the Waterside development on the city side, which is currently under development, to Victoria Embankment and eventually to Colwick Park.
