Staffordshire election results: Labour retains Cannock Chase

Labour have narrowly retained power in Cannock Chase.

The party won the Brereton and Ravenhill seat by three votes, and now holds an overall majority of the district council by one seat.

The Green Party gained its first seat in the authority, taking Hednesford South from Labour.

Conservatives retained control of Tamworth with 20 out of 30 seats. UKIP gained two seats in Tamworth and Labour lost three.

Cannock Chase District Council is now made up of 21 Labour seats (one down on the previous count), 13 Conservative, four UKIP, and one each for the Liberal Democrats, Greens and an independent.

Local council election results in the West Midlands

In Newcastle-under-Lyme there was no change, with no party in overall control.

Conservative group leader Stephen Sweeney said the result was a concern because it's "not effective" to "cobble together a coalition of various other groups".
