NUS on tuition fees: 'We will chase Lib Dems down'

Help

The president of the National Union of Students has said it will "chase down" any Liberal Democrats voting for the £9,000 cap in university tuition fees announced by the coalition government.

Aaron Porter called the proposal "utterly unacceptable" from a party that pledged to abolish such fees and a betrayal in the interest of a small number of elite universities rather than students.

Under the plans, universities will be able to charge £6,000 with a higher tier of £9,000 - nearly treble existing levels - if they promote access for poorer students.
