Wall Street shares end losing streak

(Close): US stocks rose on Monday, rebounding from losses last week, as financial shares gained and weakness in the dollar eased worries about earnings for multinational companies.

The Nasdaq ended a seven-session losing streak, although Apple fell for an eighth straight session.

The Dow Jones was up 117.5 points, or 66%, at 17,891.1, and the S&P 500 rose 161 points, or 0.78%, to 2,081,43,

The Nasdaq added 42.24 points, or 0.88%, to 4,817.59 points.

Nasdaq-listed Amazon added another 3.7%, after Friday's 9.5% jump following well-received quarterly profits. Apple fell 0.11% on continuing disappointment about last week's trading figures.

Berkshire Hathaway, was up 0.6% after its annual shareholder meeting on Saturday, while the financial sector climbed 1.1%.

Shares in Halliburton gained 1.8% after its merger with Baker Hughes was abandoned.

Baker Hughes shares fell 2%.
