Mixed signals from Australian economy


Australia looks to be weathering the global slowdown better than many of its developed counterparts. Its economy grew at the fastest annual pace in five years in the first quarter.

However, all is not as it seems.

Business confidence fell to its lowest level in 10 months in June after a sharp drop in May, and many local businesses are less than enthusiastic about their prospects.
