A history of US third-party candidates

"Democratic socialist" Bernie Sanders and the outspoken real estate tycoon, Donald Trump, have won the New Hampshire presidential primaries for the Democratic and Republican parties respectively.

BBC Monitoring looks at the most notable previous independent and third-party candidates.
