Shirley Chisholm announces her presidential run in 1972

In 1972, Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm of New York ran for US president. She announced her candidacy in her hometown of Brooklyn, New York.

Her motto of "unbought and unbossed" attracted support, but Ms Chisholm did not win the Democratic nomination.
