Thousands greet Pope Francis in New York

The Pope has concluded a momentous day in New York by celebrating Mass before 18,000 worshippers in Madison Square Garden.

Earlier huge crowds turned out to catch of glimpse of the pontiff in Central Park.

And he used his address to the United Nations to decry the destruction of the environment.
