Graca Machel and Melinda Gates push for female education

As world leaders gather in New York this week, one of the topics of discussion is gender equality.

Graca Machel and Melinda Gates sat down exclusively with the BBC's Laura Trevelyan to talk about efforts to educated women and girls

They say empowering women around the world starts with alleviating poverty, promoting education for girls and women's health.

But Ms Machel says she and Ms Gates are "outraged" at the kidnapping of girls seeking an education and Nigeria and notes "those who pay the highest price" for war are women and children.
