American forces will not have a combat mission against IS

American forces "do not and will not have a combat mission" in the struggle against Islamic state militants in Iraq.

That was the message from both President Obama and his Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday.

It comes just a day after America's top general raised the possibility of ground forces, if the current strategy fails.
