Snowy and empty Washington DC streets

A heavy snowstorm has blanketed the north-east US with snow after causing transport havoc in the South.

Snow-covered streets were deserted during the morning commute in the US capital, where the federal government shut down its offices.

The BBC's Rajini Vaidyanathan takes a walk through snowy Washington DC in the wake of yet another snowstorm in the region.
