US shutdown: Obama cancels Asia trip as deadlock continues

US President Barack Obama has cancelled his trip to Asia because of the US government shutdown.

The White House says he is needed in Washington because of his budget struggle with Republicans in Congress.

As the BBC's Katy Watson explains, Mr Obama had already decided to cut short his trip before abandoning his scheduled visits altogether.
