Joel Benenson: 'US voted on vision and values'

The Obama campaign's chief pollster, Joel Benenson, says the US election was about "vision and values".

He spoke two days after Mr Obama won re-election. The president was strongly favoured by women, Hispanic and African-American voters.

Mr Benenson added that the president's message and his life story was a powerful force, especially as the electorate had become more diverse over the past two decades.

While Republican rival Mitt Romney pitched himself as a businessman who could fix the economy, many voters believed the economic crisis was "no ordinary recession", putting the context of the election in the Democrat's favour, Mr Benenson added.
