Sandy: New York power surge explosions during storm

At least 20 people have been killed by one of the biggest storms ever to hit the United States.

The cyclone, Sandy, is tearing across the east coast of the US and Canada bringing record-breaking floods, hurricane force winds and heavy rain.

The BBC's Ben Thompson, in New York, said flood water had swamped underground tunnels causing many power distribution points to go down.
