'We are prepared for Hurricane Sandy' - DC Mayor

The Mayor of Washington DC has declared a state of emergency and told civil servants to stay at home in preparation for Hurricane Sandy.

Mayor Vincent Gray has also ordered the closure of public schools, flights have been cancelled and many rail and bus services have been suspended.

Mr Gray told BBC America his team has done "everything possible to prepare for the storm."
