Clinton defends Obama economy

Former US President Bill Clinton has made a full-throated defence of incumbent President Barack Obama, nominating him for re-election as the Democratic candidate for the White House.

In a speech outlining the president's legislative acheivements at the Deomcratic convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, Mr Clinton said Mr Obama inherited an economic mess that would take more than four years to fix.

He criticised Republicans for refusing to compromise, and said voters would have the final say.
