Isaac: Gulf Coast nervously awaits hurricane

People along the US Gulf Coast from Louisiana to the Florida-Alabama state line, are boarding up homes and buying extra supplies as Hurricane Isaac moves across the Gulf of Mexico.

The storm is expected to make landfall as early as Tuesday night.

In New Orleans, where memories of the much stronger Hurricane Katrina which devastated the city seven years ago are still strong, residents are hoping that reinforced flood defences will hold.

Meteorologist Ginger Zee reports from Gulfport, Mississippi.
