Phone-hacking: Lawyer Mark Lewis hints at US action
British lawyer Mark Lewis has spoken to the media in New York, where he is investigating whether to launch phone hacking lawsuits in the US.
Mr Lewis has represented many clients seeking damages in the UK over phone hacking by the News of the World.
He told told reporters in New York that he is representing at least three clients who believe their phones may have been hacked sometime after the 9/11 terror attacks, and that other people have approached him saying they are in a similar position.
Mr Lewis did not reveal his clients' identities, but he said they either lived in the US or were in the country when the suspected hacking took place. He suggested that at least one of his clients was a US citizen.
The lawyer added that while the now-defunct News of the World newspaper was at the centre of the investigation, other news organisations could be implicated.
