US east coast hit by snowstorm

The east coast of America has been blanketed in snow which has caused choas for travellers.

A storm from the Atlantic toppled trees and downed power lines in Washington DC, Pennsylvania and New York, where up to 12in (30.5cm) is expected to fall.

US President Barack Obama's return to the White House from a trip to Wisconsin was affected after the weather grounded the helicopter that normally transports him back to Air Force One.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has declared a weather emergency for the city.
