US Attorney General: Dozens of mafia arrests in New York

The federal authorities in New York have carried out a major operation to arrest 127 people suspected of involvement with organised crime syndicates.

FBI officials said several prominent members of New York's five mafia families were among those targeted on charges including racketeering, extortion, murder and drug dealing.

US Attorney General Eric Holder gave details of the operation at a news conference in New York.
