Bangladesh strike hit by clashes

Police in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, have used batons to disperse protesters taking part in a strike against a government gas exploration deal.

More than 100 people were arrested as a result of clashes during the shut-down, held in protest at the deal with US energy giant ConocoPhillips to look for gas in the Bay of Bengal.
