Afghan parliament opens after five-month delay

The Afghan parliament has opened with a ceremony led by President Hamid Karzai, several months after elections were held.

Mr Karzai had wanted a further delay to allow September's disputed poll to be investigated but was overruled.

The newly elected parliamentarians argued it would be unconstitutional.

The BBC's Quentin Sommerville said Mr Karzai used the occasion to address the Taliban.
