Aleppo rebels call for five-day truce to evacuate civilians

Syrian government forces have made a significant incursion into eastern Aleppo which has been in rebel hands for four years.

They have now taken the historic Old City and are closing in on the rest, leaving tens of thousand of civilians trapped in ever smaller areas.

In an unusual joint statement, western nations have condemned the Syrian government and Russia for causing a humanitarian disaster.

International correspondent Lyse Doucet reports from western Aleppo.
