Philip Hammond: UK won't work with Assad to combat IS

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has told BBC News that Britain will not work with President Assad as part of its efforts to combat the threat from Islamic State militants.

He was responding to remarks by the former chief of the armed forces, Lord Dannatt, who said that any air strikes over Syria would have to be carried out with the president's approval.

But Mr Hammond said, "We may very well find that we are aligned against a common enemy, but that doesn't make us friends".
