Gaza crisis: We'll do what's good for us, says Israeli minister

Israel will "do whatever is necessary to protect its people" before withdrawing from Gaza, the country's finance minister has said.

It has been carrying out renewed strikes to destroy tunnels used by Hamas militants to infiltrate Israel.

Earlier, medics said at least 10 people were killed in a strike near a UN-run school housing Palestinians displaced by the conflict.

Yair Lapid told the BBC that Israel had refused to attend peace talks in Cairo because there was "no use" in diplomacy, adding: "We're gonna do whatever is good for us."
